Hi! I’m Alyssa! I am a bona fide therapeutic foster mama. I am a graduate from the University of South Alabama. I majored in communications with a concentration in public relations and a minor in marketing. I absolutely loved my department and the professors were wonderful. My likes are sunshines, America, country music, and Alpha Gamma Delta.

If I have learned nothing else, it’s that when life seems shaky that’s when I need to lean on God the most. So, I started these prayers. You can send your prayer requests to me at asoutherngirlsprayers@outlook.com and I will pray with you too!

I started this blog to pray about “those I’ve loved alone the way.” I wanted to pray about the girl I used to be. “She used to tie her hair up in ribbons and bows.” I wanted to pray about the woman I was becoming. I want to sing about big dreams and “wide open spaces.” My prayers are meant to be an open outward reflection of how God’s “amazing grace” changes us. I pray because where I am weak, He is strong. I pray because “I am changed.”

I pray with songs, movies, books, bible verses, quotes, life experience, and anything else I find that inspires me. Philip Vancey said: “To pray is to walk in the full light of God, and to say simply, without holding back, I am human and You are God.” I have been so blessed and I just want to share a little bit of what I’ve learned along the way. C.S. Lewis said: “Don’t shine so others can see you. Shine so that through you others can see Him.” That’s all I’m trying to do with my prayers. “I’m just a small town girl. And that’s all I’ll ever be. I’m just a small town girl. Hey, that’s alright with me.”

  1. Hi Alyssa, Just saw and read you blog/post… when I came across this I wondered where or what book or who originally wrote this I’ve seen it in a book underlined and then saw it here… If you could help me I would appreciate that… Lorne… “If God showed you all He has planned for you, it would boggle your mind. If you could see the doors He’s going to open, the opportunities that will cross your path, and the people who will show up, you’d be amazed, excited, and passionate, it would be easy to set your mind for victory. This is what faith is all about. You got to believe it before you see it. God’s favor is surrounding you like a shield. Every setback is a setup for a comeback. Every bad break, every disappointment, and every person who does you wrong is part of the plan to get you where you’re supposed to be.”
